Central Florida's Talent Showcase is a benefit award show that fulfils two primary goals. First to highlight the vibrant and diverse talent of our community , and second is to raise funds for Dream Big, Inc. A charitable organization enriching the lives of children and young adults with special needs in Central Florida.
Dream Big is a non-profit, charitable organization — we are powered purely by the support of our community. To sponsor our cause, please join our events and/or consider making a direct donation, through the Dream Big website.
Our Mission is to:
- Fund programs that enrich the lives of…
- Raise public awareness about…
- Bring joy to…
…children and young adults with varying exceptionalities, including but not limited to, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome and other chromosomal defects, Cerebral Palsy, Sensory Integration Disorder, Brain Injury, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Specific Learning Disorders; and/or who are at risk, orphaned, homeless, or in the foster care system.
Join our efforts in:
- Raising community awareness about children and young adults with special needs
- Raising funds for programs designed to enrich their lives
- Building a scholarship fund for them to participate in programs designed to further educate, enhance socialization and inclusion, and simply bring joy into their lives
- Creating programs that provide respite to parents, build vocational skills, and increase independent functioning
Dream Big has been providing funds to support the program at the Russell Home and the Down Syndrome Foundation for 3 years and has been directly providing academic scholarships to children with special needs, so that they can attend schools with highly specialized programming.
Now, we are aiming for higher goals, we want to build the Dream Big - Respite Center/Program. Respite is the act of providing a time of rest/relief to the primary caregivers of individuals with special needs – primary caregivers must make a high level of emotional, financial, and physical investment in order to care for their child with special needs, and in order to help them maintain their own health and wellness, respite is critical. In addition to providing respite, our program will provide the individuals attending the Respite Center with skilled therapeutic programming including music therapy, art therapy, mental health counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language therapy, and behavioral therapy.
Central Florida’s Talent Showcase is aimed to increase awareness and raise the funds needed for Phase 1, of our new Respite Care program. Phase 1 will provide twenty (20) families respite and therapeutic programming one (1) day per week. The program will run for forty-five (45) weeks per year. Every family registered can use the service, up to twelve (12) times within the year. In addition, we plan to provide thirty-five (35) families with community scholarships in 2015 - 2016. These scholarships will help them participate in summer camp programs (sports, art, music programs etc.).
Our long term goal, for the Day Program, is to fund a full work week of comprehensive services. A three (3) year plan is projected to maximize the achievement of this goal.
A five (5) year plan is projected to achieve the goal of providing a Residential Center for individuals with varying exceptionalities, who have the potential to participate in gainful employment and contribute to their shared household responsibilities, with the proper levels of skilled clinical and educational intervention, training, and supports.
